Hanging Baskets are usually hung from buildings where there is not enough garden space. They are used for growing decorative plants and flowers. There are a lot of flower that can be grown in these kind of pots. For hot and dry spots succulent plants should be planted, because they hardly need any water. Flowers such as petunias and Tahitian bridal veil are very popular as is the cheery pansy for baskets.

Many gardeners make edible hanging basket by using mint, oregano thyme and pennyroyal. Some of the flower that are used for summer baskets include Creeping Jenny, Silver Falls, Geraniums and Pansies. These plants provide vibrant beddings and valuable color at eye level. Some of the plants that are mostly popular in winter baskets include Ivy, Ornamental Sedge, Primulas, Cyclamen, Viola and Winter-flowering Heathers. Summer hanging baskets should be planted from April and will need protection from frost until the end of May. Winter hanging baskets are usually planted between September and October. It is easy to arrange them when you start with one central plant and then work around planting other plants. Choose colors that work together and plants that flower reliably. Trailing flowers make a good choice. Wandering Jew plant makes an excellent choice because it trails down and grows really bushy.

Baskets should be checked daily in summer and watered when compost gets dry. In spring and summer a liquid fertilizer should be applied. Avoid wetting the foliage and flower. Deadhand should be done regularly to prevent plants’ energy from going into seed production rather than producing more flowers. They make an excellent decoration to any building and any garden.
